and the beat goes on

Two days ago, Bobby, Theresa, and Joanna took off for town to pick
up some supplies.  This is not like going to your corner Walmart,
but a road trip.

We got some chicken feed, goose feed, dog food and, oh yes some
food for people too.  The best part of the trip was a forage through
the dump to look for some needed supplies, and a long romp through
the second hand store.  Extra warm clothing, shoes and pjs were
sought after the most.  At the food bank Joanna got a nice warm coat for
winter which they assure me will happen any day now.
"Huh?", It's already icy cold here at night

Anyway.  The days are mild so far so one does get a chance to get warm
in the pm.

WIND.  Ok i said it.  The wind comes whipping down the plain as
if it is a huge sentient beast bent on world dominion.  We get wind here a lot.

 The straw
around the "cozy" (the surround for the living trailers) is doing it's job keeping
the sleeping trailers warmer and wind-free.

Everyday, Bobby is working hard to finish the living space inside tbe Cozy
Before winter.  He is putting in a floor for the center part today and soon all
of the parts of the tree rocket stove will be acquired so there will be HEAT!!!!!!

Tonight we will have another antelope roast for dinner.  (A hunter kindly gave us two
haunches and we got four roasts from it).

The chickens are now laying a dozen eggs, and soon there might be some to sell.
This is what homesteading is all about: Self suffiency and creatively increasing what you have.

Canada is beautiful, wild, unspoiled, AND EMPTY.
Not many people here.  A wonderful place for a Christian homestead.

a day of small beginnings

We  are making a home in Canada.   We have   chickens, geese,
and as  soon  as we can get them home, an  Alpaca, and goats. There
are also three cats and three (ok, two and a half) dogs.

There are three adults living here: Bobby, Theresa, and Joanna.

We are living in a straw bale "house", it has three travel trailers inside,
one of which, in the middle is just trucks and floor.  We plan to make it
through a Canadian winter with a rocket stove in the center of the
two travel trailers for living quarters.

There is an existing structure on the property, the roof leaks but will
serve as our kitchen, dining and living area.

We want you to share our experiences as we live, work, and build on
this property.

As always we live our lives in ah Scriptural way as  possible.
Our title comes from Zechariah 4:10"Who dares despise the
day of small things, since the seven eyes of the Lord
that range throughout the earth will rejoice when
they see the chosen capstonea in the hand of Zerubbabel?”

Here is a cool recipe for breakfast

COMFORT BAKE BREAKFAST RECIPE

Recipe by: Rocking Lion

Ingredients:

5 eggs
1/4 cup milk
16 oz refrigerated breakfast biscuits (I used the Pillsbury flakey kind)
4 scallions (green onions, spring onions, whatever you prefer to call them)
1 cup shredded extra sharp cheddar cheese
If you’re into the meats – cooked center cut bacon or cooked sausage

Directions:
Use an 11 x 17 pan ( You can use 9 x 13 & just bake 15 minutes longer)

1. Mix your eggs and milk in a large bowl. Slice each biscuit into fours and add it to the bowl. I like to do this before I cook the bacon or cut up the scallions – gives the biscuits some time to really soak in the eggs.

2. Cut up your scallions, shred your cheese, cook and break up your bacon or sausage. Add everything to the bowl.

3. Mix it all up and pour into your pan. Bake aike cheese addt 350 for 25 - 30 minutes or until mixture is no longer runny in the middle.

Or a simple homesteader hash breakfast:

We always cook extra potatoes in the oven whenever the oven is on, to save on
electric costs, so we have lots of cooked potatoes.
In the a.m. I chop
 the potatoes
fine, add oil to a hot cast iron pan, covering the pan with bits of potatoes.
  Now if there is
any bacon or sausage I cook that in the pan first,
then stir the cooking potatoes, when most are crispy
I push them in as many small piles as there areguests.
Crack two eggs for each pile, cover until eggs are done
if you like cheese put slices on potatoes after eggs get started.serve.
